Always a Character
I’ve always enjoyed traveling and I’ve always felt like a bit of an outcast.
Why am I mentioning both in the same sentence? Let me tell you because I’m sure you’re dying to know!
I’m constantly itching to pack everything up and explore the world and this one day my husband and I sat down and hashed out a dream plan to do just that; maybe it’ll happen, maybe it won’t. Well, later that day we spent the afternoon with friends of ours for the first time and we couldn’t help but question how things went on our drive home. We can’t be the only ones who think about our interaction during a visit and whether or not we did something too crazy or bizarre, right? I don’t always over analyze, but since it was the first time we got together with this family, it felt only appropriate to gage how things went.
Feeling like we must have been so weird made me think of all the times I’ve traveled and met super quirky, interesting people. And then I thought about living in suburbia America. When we see the same people over and over again, whether at work, school, church, etc. it’s expected that we behave a certain way, but when we’re traveling its par for the course to meet someone who is totally strange, and you don’t think anything of it. Or maybe you do recognize that they’re bizarre, but that’s one of the reasons you love to travel so much. Or maybe I’m the only one that enjoys meeting weird people? Maybe it’s because I’m weird? Help!
But thinking of all of this made me long to travel without any expectations of how I should behave. It made me long to travel and be that quirky person someone meets and enjoys.
Our friends were awesome, and we had such a great time. They gave no indication that we were acting weird or insane, but just the fact that these feelings came up on our drive home had me contemplating one of the many reasons I’ll always love to travel; there will always be a character whether it’s you or someone you meet!
Do you ever overthink things on your drive home from a visiting a new friend?
Have you ever met a character on your travels that you’ll never forget??
Be good. Be wild.
